In the grounds of Devín Castle, one of the most significant historical sites in Slovakia, we implemented a complete information and navigation system. The aim of the project was to improve visitor orientation, increase tour comfort and sensitively complement the infrastructure of a national cultural monument.
The solution uses clear routing and two visitor circuits – a shorter circuit to the upper castle and a longer circuit through the entire grounds, including less-visited areas, minor structures, pavilions and rest areas. The system includes maps of the grounds and trilingual information texts in Slovak, English and German.
Navigation elements were placed at strategic points where visitors decide on the next direction of their tour. The technical solution respects the historic surroundings and uses subtle vertical and horizontal elements with minimal impact on the castle grounds.
As part of the project, we provided complete sampling of the individual panels, designed and produced concrete bases with ground Danube gravel, manufactured the information and navigation elements, and carried out their final installation directly in the castle grounds. The solution also included mobile elements for various events and special occasions, which the operator can use flexibly according to current needs.
The resulting solution combines functionality, readability and respect for the unique character of the site. The information and navigation system helps visitors better orient themselves in the grounds, discover its individual layers and perceive Devín Castle not only as an iconic landmark, but also as an extensive historic space with many stories, details and points of interest.
